Parenting Hack OTD

When we view our children’s behavior through this lens, we can better understand why a behavior is occurring as well as what we can do about it.

Look for the following needs:

Physiological (food, sleep, nurturing touch, etc.)

Safety (safe from harm, sense of security/predictability)

Love and Belonging (loving interaction from caregivers, sense of acceptance)

Esteem (encouragement, respect)

Self Actualization (hobbies, creative pursuits)

This happens to be true for adults too- that is why a lot of our work in the therapy room begins with identifying, and sometimes uncovering, our own neglected or suppressed needs.
